Arrived in Munich on Tuesday, October 21st. Left for Salzburg on Wednesday. Salzburg is easily reached by frequent train service from Munich. The train goes all the way to Budapest, Hungary. Takes 1.5 hrs to reach Salzburg. Train fares are reasonable if you are willing to buy non refundable tickets online (just like the airlines do).
